Android QR Code Reader / Scanner Apps Reviewed

We tested 5 Android QR code reader apps to find out which one we thought was the best. During our testing we found that not all QR code reader applications for the Android phone are created equal. In fact some QR code readers can do much more then just read QR codes but they could also read and translate street signs in different languages and price check items by scanning their bar-codes when shopping.

QR Droid Download Free 4.5 out of 5 stars
PCWorld rated this app 5 out of 5 stars so we had to try this Android QR code reader app out. We immediately scanned many QR codes in magazines then a few post cards and business cards. It worked well and did not seem to have any obvious bugs. Scanning QR codes from different types of surfaces worked well and the application includes a history which is nice for bringing up QR codes later.

Pros: Very complete, Does not crash, Scans on uneven surfaces easily.
Cons: Almost too much for the basic person scanning QR codes.

Google Goggles Download Free 5 out of 5 stars

Google Goggles was by far our favorite Android QR code scanner we found. It is made by Google and does not crash and has many more functions then just a QR code scanner. This QR code scanner for the Android will also scan and recognize all different types of QR codes that can be created. This is good because many QR code apps for the Android do not read every kind of QR code that can be generated and this could be a pitfall. With Google Goggles you are able to scan street signs and photos and it will search for items that match what you where taking a photo of and find similar images or even possibly matches. This amazing app for the Android will also translate words on signs and packages in different languages from English, French, German, Spanish, Portuguese and Russian.

Pros: Its like a QR code reading Swiss Army Knife.
Cons: none really.

BeeTag QR Reader Download Free 3 out of 5 stars
BeeTag is another cool QR code reader for the Android smart phone. We liked this QR code scanner because it also scans upc bar-codes on products when you are shopping. When you scan a products bar-code it will then parse a database allowing you to compare prices and see if there are any other places that can beat the price of your product. This comes in handy especially when shopping for tv’s or electronics and your interested in finding the best deal. We have had some experiences with this android app not working on some phones right away or issues with the application closing with out warning. We recommend that you try some other QR code reader apps for the android and keep this one for price checking when shopping.

Pros: Compare prices when shopping and save money.
Cons: Closes and doesnt work on all Android phones.
